New BLAST Program Specialist

Please join me in welcoming Dana Gunderson to the Student Success Department as the new BLAST Program Specialist, providing college transition services for the BLAST program by developing relationships with and serving as a liaison between the college and participating high school districts, students, and parents. Dana has several years of experience working in both the high school and community college settings, most recently with the Sidney Community School District.
Her office is located on the second floor of the Student Center, and she can be reached at 325-3480 .

You Can Help Local Youth Get Ready for School!

Council Bluffs will be hosting its annual "Back to School Extravaganza" on August 13th to help provide school supplies for local disadvantaged youth. More than 1,000 youth are expected to need assistance at this year's event!!!
School supplies will be collected at Wal-Mart and K-Mart on Saturday, August 7, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
School supplies needed:
Backpacks, Notebooks, Markers, Rulers, Glue, Calculators, 2-Pocket Folders, Pens, Pencils, Colored Pencils, Erasers, Scissors, Loose Leaf Paper, Pencil Bags, and Highlighters.
*The items needed the most are backpacks, notebooks, folders, pens, and pencils.
Volunteers are also needed to help with the school supply collections on August 7th from 8:45am-12pm and 12pm-3pm at K-Mart and Wal-Mart in Council Bluffs.

Living Well with a Disability

Living Well with a Disability Training is eight two-and-a-half-hour classes, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Aug. 10, 12, 17, 19, 24, 26, 31 and Sept. 2, 2010, at the Southwest Iowa Center for Independent Living. The sessions are free for people with disabilities and all training materials will be provided free of charge. An orientation for this class is 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5.
